Dr. Jongsoo Jurng has been a Principal Research Scientist and Project Leader with the AirResourcesResearchCenter, KIST, since 1985. The center mainly performs research on air pollution problems including regional and long-distance transport of air pollutants as well as waste incineration. His research has focused on combustion engineering problems, and he has managed incineration research programs including air pollution control systems for the past ten years, including - Control of Chlorinated Organic Compounds and Heavy Metals from Combustion Sources by Nano Technology, - Sulfur-impregnated Activated Carbon for Mercury Removal, - Mercury control in the flue gas from waste incineration and coal-fired power plants in Korea, - Co-incineration of multi-waste including sludge and liquid waste. He has published about 50 papers in premier journals and 20 patents.

He had spent a year at the Univ. Michigan as a Research Fellow in 1991, and also had worked at the Penn State Univ., to work on laser diagnostics on combustion. He also had stayed in Germany (KarlsruheResearchCenter), Japan (Tokyo Univ. of Agricultural and Technology) and the United States (US EPA research center at RTP, North Carolina) for several months to do international co-works together. Recently, he has worked for the Korean Government as a Policy Analyst in the Office of the Prime Minster for 1.5 years (2003-2005).
