Dr. Kim has been a director of the NationalResearchCenter on environmental friendly supercritical fluid process since 1999. The research focuses on the fundamentals and applications of supercritical fluid, such as phase equilibria, extraction of useful components from natural resources, SCWO(supercritical water oxidation) of chemical agents and dioxin etc., organic reactions in supercritical media, preparation of nano-particles.

In addition, he has been interested in gaseous fire extinguishing system as an alternatives of Halon to save the ozone layer.
