Dr. Rho is a director of the systems technology division. He is currently head of a National Research Laboratory for the Feature based Intelligent Process Planning technology. In this laboratory, an software for the integration of CAD and CAM technologies is under development by studying core technologies such as feature recognition on 3D part models, knowledge abstraction from process planning experts, dynamic planning considering machine capacity, multi-module software building including set-up planning and environment-conscious operation planning, etc. This software is being developed based on the Feature based Intelligent Process Planning System(FIPS), which was already developed and applied for some companies with metal cutting processes. Management technology of data, information and knowledge is studied furthermore for adapting the new information age.
Dr. Rho has experienced a lot of projects for industries as well as government, and contributed to plan the national long-term research program, called as the Frontier Program. He has also contributed as an editor for the journal of Korea Society of Mechanical Engineering.
